Supermarket chain Safeway has signed a multi-year extension to its partnership with NFL American football team the Seattle Seahawks.
Under the agreement, Safeway will serve as the presenting sponsor of the team’s training camp and the Seahawks 12 Tour.
The two parties will also launch the Shop and Score in-store programme, which will start on August 16. The programme will give fans the chance to enter prize draws through access codes on certain products.
Prizes will include match tickets, autographed merchandise, a trip for two to Hawaii, groceries for a year, and, should the Seahawks score an offensive touchdown longer than 90 yards this season, $250,000 (€211,000).
In the past, Safeway has worked with the Seahawks on charity initiatives such as Strong Against Cancer, a campaign to fight pediatric cancer.
“The primary goal of our sponsorship is to provide 12s (Seahawks fans) throughout the state access to their favourite team and players,” Sara Osborne, Safeway’s director of public affairs and philanthropy, said. “We do that in a variety of ways. There’s the 12 Tour, we really like that programme and are trying to take it up a step further each time. There’s donations in the community and things we can do in our stores to support people. Then training camp of course, we give away a lot of (training camp) tickets that were allotted to us.”
