SAT and Honda back golf’s King’s Cup

The Sports Authority of Thailand and automotive manufacturer Honda have signed up as presenting sponsors for the Asian Tour’s King’s Cup golf tournament.

SAT will fund $1m (€735,000) in prize money for the event, which next year takes place at the Black Mountain Golf Club in Hau Hin, Thailand on January 16-19.

The King’s Cup serves as the penultimate event on the Asian Tour’s 2013 schedule, which concludes in Malaysia the following week.

Honda and SAT will enjoy significant broadcast exposure as the forthcoming edition of the King’s Cup will be shown live on the Asian Tour’s global television platform, benefitting from a reach to more than 180 countries.

SAT governor Kanokphand Chulakasem said: “Through our involvement, we believe the staging of the King’s Cup Golf Hua Hin will further develop professional golf in Thailand and maintain our nation’s proud tradition of creating great champions on the Asian Tour.”

The sponsorship deals were announced as event organisers signed a five-year deal for the tournament to appear on the Asian Tour. Terms of SAT and Honda’s agreements were not disclosed.
