Petrochemicals company Sasol has expanded its partnership with the South African Football Association by becoming the first corporate sponsor of its Development Agency (SDA) programme.
The SDA will look to implement a technical strategy dubbed Vision 2022 by incoming SAFA president Danny Jordaan, with the goal of having all the country’s national teams ranked inside the top three in Africa and top 20 in the world over the next decade.
Sasol’s commitment to the project is for three years and worth R3m (€229,000/$306,000), with the money directed towards grassroots development in the form of sponsorship of SAFA regions Gert Sibande in Mpumalanga and Fezile Dabi in the Free State.
Sasol has been associated with football in South Africa since sponsoring the national under-23 team from its 1994 inception, while it also backs women’s football in the form of the national team and the Sasol League.
