River Plate stokes Argentine rivalry with new Axion sleeve deal

Argentine football club River Plate has signed a new shirt sleeve deal with local energy brand Axion, the current sleeve partner of arch Buenos Aires rivals Boca Juniors.

As part of the deal, which will run until June 2020, Axion Energy will get LED time and branding at River Plate’s ‘El Monumental’ stadium, and other promotional and marketing assets.

Axion signed the sleeve deal with Boca Juniors in May last year. The partnership will run until June 2020.

Previously, since 2016, Chinese state telco Huawei held the shirt sleeve rights at River Plate.

River Plate has not had a main shirt sponsor since its contract with Spanish bank BBVA ended in summer 2018.
