Argentinian beer brand Quilmes has replaced energy company Axion as the title sponsor of the Superliga Argentina, the new top tier of domestic club football.
The Superliga has replaced the Primera División as Argentina’s premier club football competition. Axion had held naming rights to the Primera División and was confirmed as title sponsor of the new league last week.
However, Axion’s association with the league has now ended and Quilmes has stepped in as a replacement.
Axion had been due to receive promotion during Fox and Turner’s broadcasts of the competition, but Argentinian newspaper La Nacion said a disagreement between the energy company and one of the operators led to the end of the sponsorship.
La Nacion said Quilmes will invest about 50 million pesos (€2.4m/$2.9m) in the Superliga as part of its agreement, the length of which was not disclosed.
