Insurance group QBE has extended its principal partnership with AFL Australian rules football team Sydney Swans by three years until the end of 2019.
QBE has served as the Swans’ major sponsor since 1987. The exact financial terms of its multi-million dollar extension were not disclosed.
However, QBE has warned it cannot guarantee its continued associated sponsorship of the Swans’ academy setup if the AFL makes further changes beyond its proposed bidding system for young players which could take effect later this year.
“It would definitely make us review our position,” QBE chief executive Colin Fagen told the Sydney Daily Telegraph newspaper. “We need to be sure we’re aligning to the long term development of the sport.”
QBE will continue to enjoy prominent visibility in association with the Swans, including the main sponsorship space on the team’s playing jerseys.
