Liquefied natural gas company Qatargas has reached a deal with the Qatar Football Association to become the naming rights sponsor of the Q League, the second tier of Qatari club football, for the next three years.
The agreement allows the QFA to use Qatargas logos and branding in its advertising, while the Q League will now be known as the Qatargas League.
Sheikh Khalid Bin Khalifa Al Thani, chief executive of Qatargas, said: “We are hopeful that Qatargas’ support for the competition will go a long way in taking Qatar’s football to new heights, especially as the country is getting ready to host the (Fifa) World Cup in 2022.”
The Qatargas League season started on September 21 and will run until December 17, with 18 teams battling for the two promotion spots to the top-tier Qatar Stars League in a standard league format.
