Qatar Airways has today (Wednesday) agreed a deal to become the Official Airline of club competitions organised by the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol).
The deal begins with immediate effect and runs throughout the 2019-2022 business cycle. Club competitions covered by the agreement include the Copa Libertadores, the Copa Sudamericana and the Conmebol Recopa.
The agreement was brokered on behalf of Conmebol by FC Diez Media, the consortium formed between the IMG agency and digital sports media group Perform that was set up exclusively to serve Conmebol.
Qatar Airways becomes the first-ever Airline Partner of Conmebol’s club competitions. The company will benefit from visibility at 260 matches, starting with the Copa Libertadores semi-finals later today.
Qatar Airways will also serve as the presenting and sole partner of the Recopa Sudamericana, which is contested by the champions of the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana.
Qatar Airways Group chief executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said: “We are continually striving to boost our global sporting sponsorship portfolio, and this partnership is just one more example of our dedication to the sports sector. We are also excited to further expand our presence in South America, and look forward to supporting the forthcoming Conmebol football competitions.”
Qatar Airways holds a number of sponsorship agreements across football and is a partner of Fifa, the sport’s global governing body.
