Dutch Eredivisie football team PSV Eindhoven is seeking a new main shirt sponsor after energy company Energiedirect.nl opted to readjust its partnership with the club.
Energiedirect.nl is currently PSV’s main shirt sponsor under a three-year deal that covers the 2016-17 to 2018-19 seasons.
Under a new agreement with the club, the company’s branding will appear on the back of the team’s shirts during the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons. Energiedirect.nl will then forgo shirt sponsorship during the following season, simply serving as a partner of the club.
Energiedirect.nl replaced Dutch technology company Philips as PSV’s main shirt sponsor in 2016. Philips remains a partner of PSV, holding naming rights to the club’s stadium. The ‘PSV founded by Philips’ message also appears on the team’s shirt sleeves, with the club having been formed by Philips employees in 1913.
On the search for a new main sponsor, PSV commercial director Frans Janssen said: “This process has already started. It is nice to be able to start working on that already.
“With a nice amount from the sponsorship of Energiedirect.nl and the contribution of sleeve sponsorship and stadium naming rights through our innovation partner Philips, the conditions are ready to realise our goal – to further increase the value of the shirt.”
