Paris Saint-Germain has agreed a three-year sponsorship deal with MoneyGram, while the French Ligue 1 football club is also reportedly seeking to significantly increase the value of its kit partnership with Nike.
Money transfer specialist MoneyGram has entered into a partnership with the Ligue 1 champion to build on a new strategy focused on its brand and innovation following the transfer of its stock market listing in May from the New York Stock Exchange to NASDAQ.
Guillaume Dewaël, vice-president of MoneyGram in the French and Benelux markets, said: “This partnership is strategic for MoneyGram, because it will allow us to strengthen our brand in France but also internationally and give a boost to our growth strategy.”
Meanwhile, Le Parisien newspaper reports PSG is putting pressure on Nike to increase the value of its kit contract, with the current deal due to expire at the end of the 2013-14 season.
PSG has partnered with Nike since 1989, but with the current contract said to be worth €6.5m ($8.5m) per year the capital city club is said to be seeking a new deal valued between €20m and €30m per season.
Nike, which is already committed to a €40m per year deal with the French national team, is said to be reluctant to meet those demands.
