AFL Australian rules football club Port Adelaide has sealed a multi-year agreement to make electricity and gas retailer EnergyAustralia its new joint-major partner.
The deal marks EnergyAustralia’s first foray into the AFL and the company’s logo will appear on the front of the Power’s home guernsey in Australian rules’ premier competition, while Port Adelaide’s Magpies team will sport the same branding during its South Australian National Football League (SANFL) matches. It will be the first time both Port Adelaide teams have shared the same guernsey sponsor.
This was identified as an important factor by Port Adelaide chairman David Koch, who also revealed negotiations with Energy Australia had gone on for several months to produce a deal that will incorporate collaboration on the club’s community projects. The financial terms and exact length of the partnership, which places EnergyAustralia alongside French automotive giant Renault at the top of Port Adelaide’s sponsorship roster, were undisclosed.
Koch said: “A new partnership with EnergyAustralia less than 12 months after announcing our partnership with Renault gives our club great commercial credibility with two major national brands on our AFL guernsey for the first time ever.
“The most pleasing aspect of this partnership with EnergyAustralia is that it extends well beyond the football field. The community program that EnergyAustralia is particularly keen in helping us support is the Power to End Hunger programme. EnergyAustralia is very passionate about working with us to achieve our ultimate goal with Foodbank to end hunger here in South Australia.”
