Panasonic Asia Pacific has become the first company to sign up as an official sponsor of the 2013 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, which takes place in Myanmar in December.
The company will become the exclusive sponsor of a range of household appliances required at the Games, as well as non-exclusively providing audio-visual equipment.
The deal was brokered by the Dentsu Sports Asia agency, the official sponsorship management consultant of the Myanmar SEA Games organising committee.
The biennial multisport event, which will celebrate its 27th edition this year, will welcome participants from the 11 countries of Southeast Asia when it is staged from December 11-22. Joining host Myanmar will be Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste and Vietnam.
Kunihito Morimura, president and chief executive of Dentsu Sports Asia, said: “The Games are returning to Myanmar after over 40 years and will see over 6,000 athletes in attendance. This is an ideal opportunity for businesses looking to extend their presence into Myanmar and establish themselves in the region.”
The 2011 SEA Games took place in Jakarta and Palembang in Indonesia.
