New South Wales government develops naming rights deal for Hunter Stadium

Property developer McDonald Jones Homes has taken on naming rights to Hunter Stadium, the home ground of Australian A-League football team the Newcastle Jets and NRL rugby league club the Newcastle Knights.

The five-year deal runs until 2021 and officially renames the 33,000-capacity venue as McDonald Jones Stadium.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed, although New South Wales’ Minister for Sport, Stuart Ayres, said funding would be reinvested into stadium operations.

Ayres said: “The NSW Government has invested more than A$100m (€68m/$76m) redeveloping the Western and Eastern Grandstand and installing a new playing surface and now this naming rights deal will ensure McDonald Jones Stadium continues its hosting capabilities for many years to come.”
