New Premier League season sparks gaming sector sponsorships

THIS WEEK saw a flurry of betting partnerships agreed at a number of Premier League football clubs – days before the new season gets underway.

Manchester United has agreed a three-year deal with online betting giant Bwin, which the Manchester Evening News is reporting to be worth more than £2.4 million.

The deal sees Bwin – current shirt sponsor of Real Madrid – replace Betfair in the sponsor category at United, which signed a three-year deal in 2009 reportedly worth £1.5m.

Bwin’s sponsorship of Manchester United will see continued commercial growth for the club after it was revealed Chevrolet will replace Aon as shirt sponsor in 2014 in a seven-year deal worth up to $70 million per season.

Meanwhile, Liverpool has announced a brace of two-year betting partnerships. Paddy Power will become the club’s official betting partner for the UK, Ireland and Italy while 188BET – the club’s previous global betting partner – will operate as the club’s betting partner in all other international markets.

Liverpool’s Merseyside rivals Everton have also entered a two-year betting partnership with Paddy Power. Frontloaded values both Paddy Power deals at around £1 million.

Finally, Tottenham Hotspur has agreed two new gaming partnerships in the forms of Betfred.com and Fun88. Betfred.com has signed a three-year deal to become the UK betting partner of Spurs while Fun88 will be the club’s gaming partner in Asia for the next two years.
