Brazilian satellite-television operator Sky has entered into a partnership with the National Basketball League (LNB), the governing body of the sport in the country, under which it will become an official sponsor of the top-tier NBB competition.
Sky has agreed a deal to sponsor the competition for the remainder of the current 2015-16 season. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
As part of the deal, Sky will receive courtside advertising exposure during NBB games and its branding will appear on jerseys of game officials. Various social media activations and promotional activities will be organised before the end of the season in June. Sky currently has a jersey sponsorship deal with reigning NBB champion Flamengo.
“The partnership with Sky will contribute greatly to the development of the NBB due to the synergy of the brand with content and technology platforms,” João Fernando Rossi, LNB vice-president, said. “Sky has proven to be a company committed to successful projects with a long-term vision and focus on results.”
The agreement will cover NBB qualifying rounds, playoffs, finals and next month’s All-Star Game. Sky becomes the first major privately-owned partner of the NBB, which has previously been backed by state-owned firms Caixa and Eletrobras.
