MLB’s Cubs sign Wintrust as latest legacy partner

Banking group Wintrust Financial Corporation has become the official banking partner and fifth ‘legacy partner’ of MLB baseball franchise the Chicago Cubs.

The deal is described as “long-term” although terms were not disclosed.

Under the agreement, a Wintrust sign will be installed at top of the left field video board at Wrigley Field for the 2015 MLB season.

Wintrust will also receive, amongst other promotional opportunities, exclusive ATM rights at Wrigley Field, logo placement on the team’s media backdrop and naming rights of the ballpark's Gate D, which will become ‘The Wintrust Gate’.

Ed Wehmer, Wintrust chief executive and founder, said: “This is more than a sports sponsorship. This is two Chicago institutions partnering to meet two lofty goals – one to win the World Series for the first time in more than a century, and the other to become Chicago’s Bank in an increasingly fragmented and competitive market.”

Wintrust will play an important role with Cubs Charities as a Hall of Fame sponsor of Cubs Charities' primary fundraising event.

Wintrust becomes the fifth legacy partner of the Cubs, joining Anheuser-Busch, ATI Physical Therapy, Starwood Hotels and Resorts and Under Armour.
