German airline Lufthansa has extended its partnership with Deutscher Fußball-Bund (DFB), Germany’s national football federation.
Under the deal, Lufthansa will continue as an Official Partner of the DFB until the end of 2022.
As the Official Airline of the DFB, Lufthansa will fly players, coaches, staff and delegation members to all international matches and tournaments.
The deal also guarantees Lufthansa exclusive marketing rights using DFB IP, and increased rights during Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup.
Lufthansa first signed as a DFB partner in 2005. It has been the federation’s Official Airline since then, including during Germany’s World Cup victory in Brazil in 2014, when Lufthansa brought the team and trophy home aboard the ‘Lufthansa Siegerflieger’ (Lufthansa Winner’s Plane).
Among its other partnerships, Lufthansa is also a sponsor of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), the German National Paralympic Committee (DBS), and the German sports aid foundation Stiftung Deutsche Sporthilfe.
The DFB’s other Official Partners include brands such as bwin, Coca-Cola, Samsung, T-Mobile and Commerzbank.
The DFB’s current principal partners are Technical Sponsor adidas and General Sponsor Volkswagen.
Since last year, the DFB has lost both Mercedes as its General Sponsor and McDonald’s as an Official Partner.
