Lotte sinks three-year LPGA tournament extension

Japanese and Korean food and shopping corporation Lotte has signed a three-year extension to its title sponsorship of the LPGA golf tournament the Lotte Championship.

The event is the only LPGA sanctioned tournament to take place in Hawaii and its purse will increase to $1.8m (€1.3m) in 2015.

The LPGA Lotte Championship will continue to feature a Saturday finish over the next three years to accommodate television audiences in both the United States and Korea.

“The first three editions of the LPGA Lotte Championship provided us with a successful platform in terms of exposing and promoting the Lotte brand globally,” Sunwook Jang, chief executive of Daehong Communications, said.

Korean media company Daehong Communications owns the tournament and oversees all of its operational elements. Hawaii native Michelle Wie secured victory at the 2014 Lotte Championship, which was held from April 16-19.
