LaLiga, the organising body of the top two Spanish football leagues, has expanded its partnership with Korean electronics giant Samsung.
The company’s Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch has been named the official smartwatch of LaLiga for the remainder of the 2015-16 season.
The Samsung Gear S2 model will incorporate LaLiga’s official mobile application, which will allow users to follow live match updates from the body’s LaLiga, Segunda Division and Copa del Rey competitions. The app also includes in-game updates from the Uefa Champions League and Europa League tournaments.
As part of the agreement, Samsung will receive advertising at stadia during LaLiga matches and will be promoted through the body’s digital and social platforms. The company will also have a presence during television broadcasts, on the LaLiga TV online streaming service and at corporate events.
“Football fans will no longer have to suffer if they cannot see a game,” Celestino Garcia, corporate vice-president of Samsung, said. “Thanks to Samsung Gear S2 they can follow each matchday live and access all information related to their favourite team. The new LaLiga app for Samsung Gear provides immediate information on everything that happens, in a visually simple and direct way.”
LaLiga president Javier Tebas added: “We remain committed to innovation and we are working along with big brands to make sure LaLiga is also the best competition technologically.”
The latest agreement comes after LaLiga signed an initial deal with Samsung for the 2015-16 season back in August.
