The Indian Olympic Association has agreed partnerships with Reliance Jio, the digital services arm of the Reliance Industries conglomerate, and global nutrition company Herbalife ahead of the 2016 summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Reliance Jio has been named the IOA’s principal partner for Rio 2016, which takes place from August 5-21. The company has supported a number of football and basketball grassroots programmes in the past through partnerships with the national federations of the two sports.
Herbalife has signed a two-year partnership with the IOA. The agreement will run until 2018 and names the company the official nutrition sponsor of the Indian team at Rio 2016.
As part of the deal, Herbalife will provide nutrition education and knowledge forums for Indian athletes and national federations. Herbalife is reportedly considering a long-term association with IOA.
India is sending over 100 athletes to Rio 2016 – a record high.
