Surfing apparel and accessories manufacturer Hurley has upgraded its partnership with the World Surf League to support five of the 11 scheduled events during the 2018 WSL Championship Tour season.
Under the agreement, the WSL and Hurley will expand the ‘Hurley Surf Club’ concept to other key global surf communities.
Hurley will partner with the WSL in five Championship Tour locations: West Australia at the Margaret River Pro; Brazil at the Oi Rio Pro; Bali, Indonesia at the Corona Bali Pro in Keramas; Tahiti at the Tahiti Pro Teahupoo; and California at the Surf Ranch Open. Hurley has been named as the presenting sponsor of the Bali and Surf Ranch events, while it will launch Hurley Surf Club activations at all five venues.
The Hurley Surf Club activations will begin with the Margaret River Pro, which gets underway tomorrow (Wednesday). The initiative will include an event-site hangout with a view of the action, outreach to local clubs and teams, free video sessions with legends of the sport, access to competing Hurley athletes and a give-back component in the surrounding area of each venue. The concept will also include appearances from former WSL Championship Tour surfers such as Rob Machado, Brett Simpson and Yadin Nicol.
Hurley’s chief marketing officer Jeff Hurley said: "Rather than sponsoring one event for a week or so during the year, we are excited to partner with the WSL in a bigger way throughout the year by helping young surfers around the world have fun, get better and make a positive impact in their community."
