Global banking and financial services company HSBC has further enhanced its backing of golf by agreeing to the renewal of its sponsorship deals with three of the sport’s flagship events in Asia and the Middle East.
The new multi-year agreements will see HSBC continue as title sponsor of the World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions, the HSBC Women’s Champions in Singapore and the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship events.
The announcement was made ahead of the 2015 World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions, the final World Golf Championships tournament of the year, which begins in Shanghai, China on Thursday.
Giles Morgan, global head of sponsorship and events at HSBC, said: “In the last decade we have been involved in 45 tournaments and brought world-class golf events to China, Singapore and the UAE. Today we are re-stating our commitment to golf in Asia and the Middle East.
“We believe today’s announcement represents a major statement of intent as golf prepares to return to the Olympic Games following a 112-year absence – it’s a huge opportunity for the sport and one golf needs to grab with both hands.”
The announcement comes after HSBC renewed its official patron partnership with The Open Championship in July. The new deal with the Royal & Ancient Golf Club, which operates the tournament, will run for five years, from 2015 to 2019.
