Japanese golf equipment manufacturer Honma has been unveiled as the new title sponsor of the Hong Kong Open golf tournament.
The deal covers the 2018 edition of the event, which will be held at Hong Kong Golf Club from November 22-25.
The tournament will mark the start of the European Tour’s 2019 Race to Dubai schedule, and will also be sanctioned by the Asian Tour and the Hong Kong Golf Association. It will feature a prize fund of $2m (€1.7m).
Honma replaces financial services company UBS as the event’s title sponsor.
Honma chairman Liu Jianguo said: “We are excited about the increasing popularity of golf in Asia, with the number of golf fans in Asia growing by some 34 per cent over the past five years. We look forward to celebrating the 60th anniversary of the tournament and the founding of Honma and to working together with the Hong Kong Golf Club to make this year’s event a very special occasion in the tournament’s esteemed history.”
