The University of Otago has reached an agreement to become a major sponsor of its local Super Rugby franchise the Highlanders.
Under a deal, which is a first for a New Zealand university, the institution’s name will feature on the back of the Highlanders’ jersey and on medics’ bibs.
The University of Otago logo will be painted onto the field at Highlanders’ Forsyth Barr Stadium and will appear on digital signage at pitchside during matches.
University advertisements will play on stadium screens during intervals in matches, while players are set to collaborate on a range of events and academic initiatives.
Highlanders’ Australian Super Rugby counterpart Brumbies is sponsored by the University of Canberra. Terms of the Highlanders agreement were not disclosed.
