Dutch technical services provider Imtech has announced its intention to withdraw from its sponsorship commitments to three leading German 1.Bundesliga football clubs in a move that will bring an end to its stadium naming rights deal with Hamburg SV.
Hamburg’s 57,000-seat home has been known as the Imtech Arena since 2010. Imtech’s current deal with Hamburg is scheduled to run until 2016, but chief executive Gerard van der Aast told the Hamburger Abendblatt newspaper that the company is seeking to negotiate an early conclusion to the partnership.
Imtech’s decision will also affect sponsorship deals with 1.Bundesliga champion Bayern Munich and VfB Stuttgart.
Van der Aast said: “We will not extend the naming contract with the HSV stadium in any case. Due to our tight economic situation, we want our sponsorship commitments at Hamburg SV, Bayern Munich and VfB Stuttgart to finish as quickly as possible.”
