German supermarket chain Edeka Group has agreed a deal to become the first partner of Hamburg’s bid to host the 2024 summer Olympic Games.
The partnership will begin immediately and run through to September 2017, when the International Olympic Committee is due to announce the winning bid.
Edeka has become a top-level national partner of the Hamburg 2024 team, which is competing with rival bids from the French capital of Paris, Los Angeles in the US, Italian capital city Rome and Budapest in Hungary.
Edeka will also launch a range of marketing and promotional activities in its stores across Germany in order to showcase the bid on a national and local level.
Germany has not staged an Olympics since Munich hosted the 1972 summer Games.
