Globo adds sponsorship role to Rio 2016 commitments

Brazilian media group Globo has agreed a deal under which it will become the official media sponsor of the 2016 summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Globo already holds the broadcast rights in Brazil to Rio 2016 and said the new agreement provides that four of the group’s companies – Globo, Globosat, Infoglobo and Sistema Globo de Rádio – will develop especially customised projects, aimed at increasing brands’ exposure and ensuring coverage of the Games for the whole country.

Globo said the four companies included in the deal are to be represented by a trademark developed especially for the project. Globo will undertake promotional initiatives under the ‘we are all Olympians’ banner utilising its ‘Gold Team’ of athlete ambassadors.

The Gold Team, which together has won 15 Olympic medals, is made up of 10 athletes. They are: Gustavo Kuerten (tennis); Tande, Giba and Fabi (volleyball); Shelda (beach volleyball); Maurren Maggi (athletics); Gustavo Borges (swimming); Daiane dos Santos (artistic gymnastics); Flávio Canto (judo) and Hortência (basketball).

“The choice of Grupo Globo as Rio 2016's official media sponsor was based on the group’s relevance, comprehensiveness and reach, which brings great visibility to the staging of the Olympic Games in all platforms,” Rio 2016 president Carlos Arthur Nuzman said.

Globo is listed as an official supporter of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games alongside Alliansce, Cisco, Estacio, EY, Sadia, Batavo, Skol and 361.
