GPS technology company Garmin has signed up as a team partner and event supplier for the 2017-18 edition of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.
The upcoming edition of the sailing event will mark Garmin’s third as a team partner, after it also backed the 2013-14 and 2015-16 races.
As well as supporting the Garmin team during the event, the company will serve as the action camera provider for the entire race fleet, with all 12 yachts to be fitted with VIRB Ultra 30 cameras. A number of VIRB 360 cameras will also be rotated throughout the fleet during the race.
In addition, Garmin will provide marine navigation equipment as part of its role as the event’s official marine electronics partner.
Mattias Daldborg, Garmin’s EMEA marketing and communications manager for marine, said: “The global communication strategy of the Clipper Race enables us to communicate and engage with a global audience with all that Garmin has to offer from our marine electronics through to our VIRB action cameras and dedicated fitness products.”
The 2017-18 Clipper Race begins in the English city of Liverpool on August 20, with the fleet’s first stop to be in Punta del Este, Uruguay.
