French lottery Française des Jeux has become the first company to commit financial backing to Paris’ bid to host the 2024 Olympic Games.
FDJ president Stephane Pallez said the majority state-owned organisation will determine the level of its financial support for the bid when the International Olympic Committee defines the status and rules surrounding sponsorship of potential host cities.
Pallez told French news agency AFP: “We will commit financially to support this nomination, along with other companies because, of course, we will not be alone.”
Paris formally launched its bid to host the 2024 Olympics last month, having won the support of the city council, as well as the regional and national government. A feasibility study has previously put a potential price tag of €6.2bn ($6.8bn) on hosting the Games in Paris, with officials stating the bid itself is likely to cost €60m.
FDJ was also the first national sponsor announced for France’s hosting of the Uefa Euro 2016 national team football championships, while it is also the naming sponsor of UCI Pro Team cycling outfit FDJ.fr amongst a host of other sporting activities.
