English Premier League football club Everton has entered into a first-of-its-kind partnership with organisers of golf’s Open Championship.
This year’s edition of the UK’s major will take place at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, Merseyside from July 16-23.
As part of Everton’s agreement with The Open, any supporter that purchases a ticket for the event between now and midnight on February 28 using the online promotion code ‘146thOpenEve’ will receive a voucher for an exclusive tournament cap.
Everton will also work with organisers to deliver exclusive content to fans in the build-up to the event.
Everton’s head of engagement Scott McLeod said: “The North West is home to England’s Golf Coast and many Evertonians will also be golf fans, this media partnership will give our supporters the chance to get closer to one of the world’s greatest sporting events taking place on our doorstep. With some exclusive content planned with our coaching staff and players as well as golfers, we look forward to working alongside The Open on activating another Everton first.”
This year’s Open will mark Royal Birkdale’s 10th staging of the event. Sweden’s Henrik Stenson is the defending champion, having picked up his first major title at Royal Troon in Scotland last year.
