English Premier League football club Everton has signed a sleeve sponsorship agreement with games developer Rovio Entertainment, creator of the Angry Birds franchise.
The multi-year deal will result in the Angry Birds logo appearing on the left sleeve of Everton’s shirts. The agreement began with yesterday’s (Sunday’s) 4-0 defeat at Manchester United.
As part of the deal, Everton and Finland-based Rovio will create branded content using the club’s crest, players and stadium. Angry Birds players will also be given the chance to win exclusive Everton-related prizes.
Alan McTavish, head of commercial at Everton, said: “Rovio Entertainment recognise the global reach that Everton can deliver through its international fan base and the global exposure of the Premier League. In return, working with Rovio and the Angry Birds brand gives Everton exposure in key international markets through their breadth of digital channels in gaming and animation, as well as a wide range of co-branded merchandise.”
Ville Heijari, chief marketing officer of games at Rovio Entertainment, added: “This is Rovio's first partnership in the most watched sports league in the world, and a logical continuation of our global Angry Birds brand partnerships.”
