EDF Luminus, the Belgian arm of French energy giant EDF, has agreed a two-year partnership with the Belgian Football Association (URBSFA/KBVB) to sponsor its national team until the Uefa Euro 2016 tournament.
Association president Francois De Keersmaecker confirmed EDF Luminus would fill the 12th and final major sponsor slot on the Belgian Football Association’s roster.
EDF Luminus will also promote green energy and provide potential benefits to local clubs, offering a year of free energy giveaway to teams during each national team game through the ‘Devil of the match’ initiative.
Taking its name from Belgium’s Red Devils nickname, the scheme invites fans to vote for the player who has given the most energy for the team from the November 12 friendly against Iceland onwards. The winning player will then offer the one-year free electricity prize to a local club of his choice.
Belgium is currently third in qualification Group B for Euro 2016, with four points from its first two matches. The top two teams in each group qualify for the finals automatically, with the third place side taking a spot in the play-off phase.
