Discount retail group Dollar General has signed up as the new title sponsor of the annual college American football bowl game held in Mobile, Alabama.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it will run for at least this year’s edition, which will be played at Ladd-Peebles Stadium on December 23 and will feature teams from the Mid-American and Sun Belt Conferences.
The game’s new title will be the Dollar General Bowl. US-based web hosting company GoDaddy had held title sponsorship rights from 2011.
Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson said: “Football has been a part of Mobile’s history and culture for decades. Gridiron greats such as Ben Roethlisberger, LaDainian Tomlinson, Walter Payton, Dan Marino and Brett Favre have all competed in our very own Ladd-Peebles Stadium. Dollar General has long had a presence in Mobile as an employer and retailer. We're excited to take that partnership to another level.”
The 2015 game saw Georgia Southern defeat Bowling Green 58-27 on December 23.
