US security, health and engineering solutions company Leidos has become the new main shirt sponsor of Major League Soccer team D.C. United.
Under the deal Leidos becomes D.C. United’s presenting partner and an official sponsor. The terms and length of the deal were undisclosed, although the Washington Post newspaper said it will run for between three to five years.
Leidos’ branding will feature prominently throughout RFK Stadium and the franchise’s marketing and media properties, while both parties will collaborate for a range of community and charitable initiatives including Armed Forces Week.
The new D.C. United jersey, complete with the Leidos logo, will be available from the club’s official store at RFK Stadium from March 8 – the day of its first 2014 MLS regular-season home match against Columbus Crew.
In December last year, German automotive company Volkswagen decided not exercise an option to renew its six-year term as D.C. United’s shirt sponsor. Fans owning shirts with the Volkswagen branding can bring them to the team store and have the Leidos logo added free of charge.
