UK-based property company the Cromer Group has reached a deal to sponsor the Irish St Leger horse race for the next three years.
Cromer will use its partnership with the Group One Classic at Curragh Racecourse to promote the Palmerstown House Estate, a luxury hotel and golf resort in County Kildare, Ireland that it purchased last year.
This year marks the 100th edition of the Irish St Leger and Cromer’s involvement has helped to ensure a substantial increase in prize money to €300,000 ($411,000) from €200,000 in 2013.
The 14-furlong contest will be one of the highlights on day two of Irish Champions Weekend.
Evan Arkwright, commercial manager of the Curragh Racecourse, said: “Our priority will be to attract the very best staying horses from Europe and ensure the race continues to be the premier trial in Europe for the Emirates Melbourne Cup.”
