US high-performance polymer producer Covestro has entered into a partnership with NHL ice hockey franchise the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it was confirmed that Covestro will serve as the official innovation partner of the team.
Pittsburgh-based Covestro will work with the Penguins to examine potential applications across the sport of ice hockey, including player equipment and rink construction.
Jerry MacCleary, chairman and chief executive of Covestro, said: “We’re excited about this partnership – not only because it supports our strong focus on innovation and sustainability, but also because it represents the unconventional kind of collaboration that is characteristic of Pittsburgh.
“It’s not every day you have the chance to pair science with sports in the pursuit of innovation, and we’re proud to be on the same team as the Pittsburgh Penguins.”
Covestro also has similar deal in place with the Deutsche Eishockey Liga, the top division of ice hockey in Germany.
