Clifford Chance has agreed a deal to become the official law firm of the Rugby World Cup 2015 international rugby union tournament.
Under the deal with Rugby World Cup Limited (RWCL), which operates the event, the firm will provide a full range of legal services for the tournament. The competition will take place in England from September 18 to October 31, 2015.
Clifford Chance previously acted as the official law firm to the 2007 edition of the Rugby World Cup, which took place in France.
“We are excited to be renewing our working relationship with RWCL, contributing towards the commercial success of a tournament that goes from strength to strength,” Clifford Chance partner Daniel Sandelson said.
Brett Gosper, RWCL’s managing director, added: “The appointment of an official law firm is an important element in the delivery of a major global sports event.”
Gosper also confirmed that RWCL will be making a number of other commercial and broadcast announcements in the coming weeks.
The announcement of the Clifford Chance deal comes shortly after the appointment of Heineken, Land Rover and Societe Generale as worldwide partners of the 2015 event. Gilbert has also been confirmed as the official ball supplier, while Canterbury of New Zealand will be the official sportswear supplier.
