The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has launched the country’s first domestic club league, with government-owned bank Caixa Econômica Federal coming on board as its main commercial partner.
Terms of deal between the CBF and Caixa were not disclosed, but the Maquina do Esporte website said that the agreement is worth R$10m (€3.3m/$4.4m).
The first edition of the women’s Campeonato Brasileiro will run from September 18 to December 4 and is being seen as a vehicle to encourage more professionalism in the Brazilian women’s game.
The first season will include Brazil’s top-20 ranked clubs.
The Brazilian national team is currently positioned fourth in Fifa’s world rankings.
