UK telecommunications company BT has renewed its title sponsorship of the Great CityGames Manchester, taking in the 2014 edition of the urban athletics event.
Now in its sixth year and having previously hosted stars such as 100m and 200m Olympic and world champion Usain Bolt, the 2014 edition of the BT Great CityGames will take place on May 17 in the English city.
Athletes compete on a purpose-built athletics track on Deansgate in Manchester city centre, while field events will take place on Albert Square in front of Manchester Town Hall.
London 2012 long-jump champion Greg Rutherford has confirmed his participation alongside Richard Browne, the USA’s London 2012 Paralympic 100m silver medalist. BT is committed to creating high-profile opportunities for Paralympic athletes and is a partner of the British Paralympic Association and Paralympics GB, having previously served as the title sponsor of the now defunct Paralympic World Cup.
A crowd of 20,000 people is expected to gather on Deansgate for the event, with spectators allowed to attend free of charge.
