British banking group Barclays has signed a naming rights agreement for the European arm of the 52 Super Series sailing competition in 2014.
The 52 Super Series was founded in 2012 and its European season is this year comprised of four regattas in Capri and Porto Cervo, Italy and Palma and Ibiza, Spain. The monohull grand prix races features athletes from the Olympic Games, America’s Cup and round-the-world races.
“This sponsorship demonstrates the clear commitment of Barclays Group to its business in Spain and throughout Europe,” Benedek Vasy, director of the marketing strategy of retail banking for Barclays in Europe, said. He added that the agreement highlighted the bank’s desire to increase its presence in Spain, Italy, France and Portugal.
The opening regatta in the 52 Super Series takes place in Capri on May 20-24 as part of the Capri Sailing Week, which is title sponsored by luxury watch brand Rolex.
The European Super Series complements the US 52 Super Series which comprises the Quantum Key West regatta, which took place last month in Key West, and is followed by a regatta in Miami from March 5-9.
