Spanish Liga champion Atlético Madrid has agreed a long-term extension to its kit partnership deal with US sportswear giant Nike until 2026.
Nike began supplying kits to Atlético in 2001 and this 10-year renewal of terms that were due to expire in 2016 takes the relationship between the two parties to 25 years.
The club’s chief executive, Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, said: “To be able to count on Nike, a selective, demanding partner that is the world leader in this sport, undoubtedly constitutes very important support for us. The continuity of this agreement signifies NIke's belief in us and in our project.”
Atlético pipped Barcelona and Real Madrid to its first Spanish top-tier title since 1996 last season and will once again compete in the Uefa Champions League, where it was beaten by Real in the 2014 final.
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
