Spanish Liga football club Athletic Bilbao has extended its agreement with main sponsor Petronor and will assign branding space on its shirt sleeves to a commercial partner for the first time, according to the Deia.com website.
Oil and gas company Petronor, which is based in the Basque Country, has extended its association with Athletic for the 2014-15 season – the seventh consecutive season it has served as the main shirt sponsor of the club.
Financial services company Kutxabank, also a Basque Country-based institution, has sponsored Athletic in various forms since 1992, but Deia.com said it will now step up to assume branding rights through its BBK brand on the club’s shirt sleeves for 2014-15.
BBK branding was present on Athletic’s training gear during the 2013-14 La Liga season, but it will now assume the role previously held by the provincial council of the Basque Country.
Athletic Bilbao finished fourth in the 2013-14 La Liga table, a position which sealed qualification for the Uefa Champions League.
