Argos-Shimano secures new title sponsor

UCI WorldTour cycling team Argos-Shimano will welcome a new joint naming sponsor next year after ending its relationship with Dutch energy company Argos.

The as-yet unnamed brand will take Argos’ space alongside cycling equipment brand Shimano from January 1, with the new contract running through 2016.

“Very recently, a company expressed interest in taking over the main sponsorship,” the Dutch team’s general manager Iwan Spekenbrink said. “The new sponsor is a good fit with our ambitious team goals.”

Argos began sponsoring Spekenbrink’s team in 2012, with it joining the UCI’s top-tier WorldTour series this year.

Argos-Shimano has won stages in all three Grand Tours in 2013, including Marcel Kittel’s four stage victories at the Tour de France.
