Tottenham Hotspur has agreed a deal for Asian insurance company AIA Group to become the English Premier League football club’s main shirt sponsor.
The agreement will run for five years, from 2014-15 to 2018-19, and is reportedly worth in excess of £12m (€14.6m/$19.9m) per year.
As the club’s new principal global partner, AIA’s branding will appear on the front of Tottenham’s shirts in all competitions. Before the start of the 2013-14 season, AIA agreed a one-year deal to be the club’s shirt sponsor in cup competitions.
Tottenham ambassadors such as former players Ledley King and Ossie Ardiles will regularly make visits to AIA's markets to promote co-branded initiatives that support the partnership. Tottenham's global coaching team will also deliver elite coaching programmes in the Asia-Pacific region.
“Together we share long-term ambitions across Asia, a region where the club has seen significant growth in recent years, and this extended partnership with AIA, one of the leading companies in the Asia-Pacific region and a clear market leader in their industry, will further help to support our objectives and engage with our supporters across the region,” Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy said.
AIA chief executive and president Mark Tucker added: “Tottenham have a massive fan base in Asia and we look forward to helping them further expand their presence here, as we continue to grow our franchise and communicate the strength, breadth and depth of the AIA brand to consumers in our 17 markets around the Asia-Pacific region.”
