The Football Association of Zambia has extended its sponsorship deal with telco MTN.
The KweseESPN website reported that the deal would run for three years and will be worth $4.5m (€3.6m). MTN will continue to title sponsor the FAZ’s domestic league as part of the deal, which also covers the Zambian national team.
Through the agreement, each of the 20 top-flight Zambian clubs will receive a participation fee of K200,000 (€17,000/$21,000) – a substantial increase on the K7,000 they previously earned.
In a statement reported by KweseESPN, FAZ president Andrew Kamanga said: “The Association is particularly excited with MTN's decision to increase its sponsorship package to $1.5m per year with $300,000 being in kind.
“This new contract increases remuneration packages for all 20 Super League teams with the league champions guaranteed K500,000 from K250,000 which represents a 100 per cent increase.”
The Lusaka Times newspaper added that the Zambian national team would receive $750,000 in sponsorship as part of the deal.
MTN’s previous three-year deal with the FAZ expired at the end of 2017.
