Small business accounting software provider Intuit QuickBooks has agreed a one-year deal to become the new principal sponsor of English Premier League football club West Bromwich Albion for the 2014-15 season.
Intuit QuickBooks branding will appear on the front of the West Midlands team’s home and away jerseys throughout the campaign.
Intuit QuickBooks will replace Zoopla as West Brom’s front-of-shirt sponsor after the property and house prices website opted against renewing its two-year deal with the club.
Zoopla’s decision not to renew came against a backdrop of controversy created by West Brom striker Nicolas Anelka celebrating a goal in a game against West Ham United in December 2013 with the allegedly anti-Semetic ‘quenelle’ salute. Anelka said there was no racist element to the gesture and that it was merely a show of solidarity towards controversial French comedian Dieudonne M’bala M’bala.
Following an initial suspension by West Brom, Anelka’s contract was later terminated after the club was unable to agree terms over the conditions of the suspension. The club was also unhappy about comments Anelka made on social media about the situation.
West Brom finished 17th in the 2013-14 Premier League table, three points clear of the final relegation place.
