Werder Bremen brews extension with beer partner

US brewing giant Anheuser-Busch InBev has renewed its partnership with German Bundesliga football club Werder Bremen.

The new five-year deal will run until the end of the 2020-21 campaign. The two parties’ existing agreement was due to expire this summer. Under the deal, Anheuser-Busch will continue to serve as a ‘top sponsor’ of the club.

The brewery’s Bremen-based Haake Beck subsidiary has a long-running association with the club, which is currently 16th in the table with five games of the 2015-16 season remaining.

“We are aware that Werder is in a difficult stage of the season,” Anheuser-Busch’s marketing director Henner Höper said. “We all want to pull together: team, sponsors and fans, with a goal – (to survive in) the first league.”
