Volvo has opted to expand its support of the New South Wales Waratahs rugby union team by upgrading to a principal sponsor role for the 2014 and 2015 seasons.
The car company has been the sleeve sponsor of the team for the past two years, but will now assume prime position on the front of players’ jerseys under the terms of the new deal.
Volvo will replace HSBC as the principal sponsor of the club, following the conclusion of the bank’s 12-year relationship with the Waratahs. The car company will also continue in its role as an official partner of the NSW Rugby Union.
Jason Allen, Waratahs Rugby chief executive officer, said: “Volvo’s move creates some exciting new opportunities for additional partnerships and we are already following up with a number of potential sponsors who have expressed their interest in being a part of the exciting future of the NSW Waratahs.”
