Volvo Car UK has agreed a new deal with the Royal Yachting Association’s British sailing team to continue its sponsorship of RYA Olympic, Paralympic and youth racing programmes for the next four years.
Under the terms of the agreement, the automotive company will retain its role as official car partner to the British sailing team, and continue to provide investment and support across various classes of RYA sailing.
Volvo will also supply the RYA with 30 cars, in addition to providing an additional 30 cars directly to sailors on the World Class Performance Programme. The support will assist with logistical challenges of transporting personnel, boats and equipment to various training and event commitments, in the UK and overseas.
Volvo has been a long-term partner of UK sailing, having supported youth sailing since 1999 and having been the vehicle partner of the British sailing team since 2009.
Nikki Rooke, head of corporate communications, events and sponsorship at Volvo Car UK, said: “In 2012, Volvo backed 13 Olympic and four Paralympic sailors in their campaigns – the biggest group of ‘Team Volvo’ sailors since the sponsorship began. It was a natural progression to extend and offer our support to the whole team for the next Olympic cycle.”
