Volkswagen motors on with Swiss FA

German automotive manufacturer Volkswagen has renewed its partnership with the Swiss Football Association (SFV).

The two parties have agreed a four-year extension to their existing deal, which commenced in January 2014 and was due to expire after this summer’s Uefa Euro 2016 national team tournament in France.

The new agreement, financial terms of which were not disclosed, will run until the summer of 2020. As part of the deal, Volkswagen will continue to provide the SFV with a fleet of vehicles.

Volkswagen’s reputation as a major player in the sports sponsorship field has been cast into doubt following the emissions scandal that hit the company in September. Volkswagen admitted to cheating diesel emission tests on its vehicles in the United States.

On Monday it extended its sponsorship of German club football knockout tournament the DFB-Pokal but earlier this month announced it would not be renewing its partnership with Bundesliga club Schalke when the two parties’ agreement expires at the end of the 2015-16 season.
